Healthy HVAC For All Seasons

HVAC Care For All Seasons

The health and efficiency of your HVAC systems don't just matter when it's 100 degrees outdoors. Even when you don't have your air blowing at full blast, your HVAC system serves an important purpose for your property year-round, controlling both the temperature and your overall air quality indoors. Here are a few ways you can help your heating and air conditioning systems stay healthy and operate at their best all year round!

Spring

As the temperature starts to pick up outside, it's now more than ever that you need to ensure your air conditioning system is up for the summer ahead. Ideally, HVAC maintenance should be done once every six months, and we believe one of those checkups should be done in the spring to inspect your AC units before they get the heaviest use.

Comprehensive HVAC maintenance should be done by a professional, but there are other things you can do to help your system as well.

  • Switch out your air filters
  • Clean away any debris built up around your outdoor unit
  • Check around windows and doors for any air leaks

Summer

Summer is by far the hardest time of the year for our AC systems. Your HVAC system will be putting a lot of energy towards keeping the Florida heat from invading your home. Even with a highly-functioning system and proper upkeep, your unit will be under a lot of stress- and your energy bills will probably see a temporary hike. We advise giving your system a break whenever possible, such as:

  • Utilizing ceiling fans
  • Tinting windows/ using insulated shades
  • Set your AC warmer when nobody's at home
  • Blocking any air leaks
  • Regularly checking air vents and replacing clogged, dusty filters
  • Trimming away any foliage around your outside unit.

Fall

Fall is another good time for a maintenance tune-up, not only to check up on your AC system after the summer but also to ensure that your heater is good to go. Heating equipment issues, left unaddressed, can be dangerous fire hazards or even lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, so it's always important to have a heating and air conditioning repair professional give your system the all-clear before using it.

We also recommend having a professional check out your ductwork. You can lose a lot of heat through leaks and your ductwork, so getting any repaired ahead of time will help keep your home energy-efficient. This is the perfect time of year to test your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide monitors as well.

Winter

As you move from cooling your home to heating it, setting your thermometer for the season can help keep your home more energy-efficient. For maximum energy efficiency, do the opposite of what you did in the summer: keep your home at a moderate temp, and set your thermostat several degrees lower when everyone's out of the house. And as always, check and change any air filters when they start getting dusty- and don't be afraid to call an HVAC professional if you start noticing any issues.
